FITZROY JOINERY MARKS HISTORIC CHANGE |

Gary Streeter, MP for South Hams, looks on as Fitzroy directors Robert Le Masurier and Nick St Aubyn display the curved edging for a hospital counter |

One of Plymouth's oldest businesses this month marked the beginning of a new era, when Fitzroy Joinery welcomed local MP Gary Streeter to the opening of our new factory on the Langage Business Park, in the presence of many leading members of the construction industry in the South West. |
Fitzroy's Chairman and owner, Nick St Aubyn, has seized the opportunity of Fitzroy's move to invest in the very latest production systems, whose speed and accuracy now underpin Fitzroy's tradition of craftsmanship. "At a time when construction business is booming", he explains, "these changes enable our stretched workforce to cope with ever increasing demand". |
Fitzroy has always pursued a policy of training our own people. Our partnership with the Plymouth College of Further Education has lasted over forty years. New apprentices are taken on every September and this year school leavers John Morton and George Scott have just started with the firm. |
Fitzroy last moved in 1954, when Jack Le Masurier joined the firm. He built the business up from just three employees to thirty by the time of his retirement in 1980. His son Robert, who is now Managing Director, has since seen many more radical changes in customer demand and production technology. "Our numbers have stayed around the same, but our output has grown and developed remarkably in the last twenty years". |
The opening of the new factory also marks the launch of Fitzroy's latest innovation - a complete window range with 'easy clean' hinges, double glazing and a factory finish. With a thirty year guarantee against rot and fungal attack, based on Fitzroy's special preservative treatment, this new design promises to win Fitzroy a whole new era of expansion. |
